On September 24th, the Conferencia Transatlántica: Cuba en Crisis took place live via Facebook to discuss the crisis that Cuba is going through, as well as the urgent actions that the European Parliament can take to pressure the regime and alleviate the seriousness of the Cuban situation.

Testimonies of human rights violations in Cuba

The activist and scientist Ariel Ruíz Urquiola and promoter of Cuba Decide Yunier Suarez were able to share their testimonies of the various human rights violations they and others have experienced at the hands of the dictatorship in Cuba with MEP José Ramón Bauzá via Facebook live, further making it known that Cuba is in Crisis to the international community.

Members of the European Parliament request the suspension of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement (PDCA) between Cuba and the European Union

On September 3rd, PP addressed a question to the High Representative of European Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, asking him to consider the suspension of the Dialogue and Political Agreement for Cooperation between the European Union and Cuba due to repeated violations by the Cuban Government. At the Iber-American summit, Rosa Maria Payá discussed the repression in Cuba and the vulnerability of the Island amid COVID-19

Rosa Maria Paya participated in the Ibero-American Summit discussion about Democracy vs. Populism where she elaborated upon repression and the vulnerability of life that exists in Cuba which extends throughout all communist dictatorships around the globe and how it relates to the new dangers posed by COVID-19; namely, the negligence of the dictatorship in the face of the health crisis during the pandemic.

Rosa Maria Paya participated in the forum “Freedom of conscience and democratic struggle” organized by the Juan German Roscio Foundation, to honor Juan Requesens two years after his arrest. It was held online on August 7, and was moderated by Paola Bautista de Alemán, president of the foundation.

Influential figures and politicians of high standing are publicly in favor of the campaign #LiberenLaAyuda

High-level political figures around the world, in favor of the Cuban people, have publicly announced their support for the campaign to release humanitarian aid that is currently being arbitrarily withheld at the Port of Mariel, Cuba. The IACHR publicly condemns the harassment and persecution against activists in Cuba

Over the last quarter we have been recording the various arbitrary arrests, acts of repudiation, human rights violations and other incidents, including all those arrested on, or leading up to, the Sunflower Revolution peaceful protests on September 8th, through our Center for Citizens Reports. All these records have been sent to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights which has resulted in several public denunciations via Twitter from the IACHR as well as the Commissioner of the IACHR, Stuardo Ralon.

September 8: The Sunflower Revolution united Cubans around the word through peaceful protests

On September 8th, for the Sunflower Revolution, Cubans inside the Island took to the streets in defense of their rights and liberties, demanded freedom from the Castro-communist regime, and the release of all political prisoners. International participation in the Sunflower Revolution was widespread with protests by Cubans living in the Netherlands, Ecuador, the United States, Germany, France, Canada, Switzerland and other countries.
