After receiving the award, Rosa María Payá expressed that «for me it is a great honor and I thank the University for this recognition, which is given in the framework of the defense and rescue of the principles of Christian humanism that are the guide, the inheritance of the work of my father. I also recognize this award as a way to honor his legacy and to honor the struggle of all the Cuban people. »
It should be noted that this is the second time that the USS Public Leadership and Commitment Honor Medal has been awarded. Previously, in 2017, the honorees were the marriage of Lucy Ana Avilés and Benjamin Walton who provided the resources for the arrival of the «SuperTanker» plane to support and contribute to the fight against the forest fires that affected the south central zone of Chile.
