On April 10, the IACHR, responding to the request for precautionary measures initiated by our platform, sent a communication to the Cuban regime, requesting information about the critical health situation of Javier Delgado Torna, promoter of Cuba Decide and political prisoner.
Among the information requested by the Commission from the regime are observations on Delgado Torna’s current health status, prescribed treatment to address the medical condition, and medical treatment actually received from the Cuban dictatorship, as well as any other pertinent information that may help understand the risk situation faced by the political prisoner.
Javier Delgado Torna faces a severe diagnosis of heart problems: his left ventricle has ceased to function and his right ventricle operates at only 25% capacity. Additionally, indicators such as INR values point to altered coagulation, indicating a potentially fatal condition if urgent medical attention is not provided.
Despite this situation, he was transferred again from the provincial hospital of Santa Clara to the Guamajal prison. Javier Delgado Torna’s health and life are at extreme risk due to his unjust imprisonment and lack of adequate medical attention, in a constant practice of human rights violations by the Cuban dictatorship.
Javier Delgado Torna is just one of the thousands of political prisoners in Cuba, suffering the consequences of speaking out in favor of freedom and rights. Currently, there are more than 1060 political prisoners or prisoners of conscience unjustly convicted by the Cuban dictatorship.
