Paz Pereira Receives Rosa María Payá on His First Day as President

LA PAZ, BOLIVIA – November 10, 2025 – Cuban leader Rosa María Payá, founder of Cuba Decide, was invited to the presidential inauguration of Bolivia’s new President, Rodrigo Paz Pereira, and was received by the President at the Palacio Quemado the following day. During her stay in La Paz, Rosa María celebrated embracing former President Jeanine Áñez after 5 years of unjust imprisonment.

Meeting with President Paz Pereira

“I congratulated President Paz Pereira on this victory of hope, and we offered our support so his new government can dismantle the Cuban regime’s infiltration and influence within Bolivian state institutions,” Payá stated. “This is Bolivia’s opportunity to overcome schemes of injustice and join the nations that champion freedom and democracy in the Americas,” she concluded.

Heartfelt Reunion with Jeanine Áñez

Hours after the ceremony, Rosa María Payá met with the newly released former Constitutional President Jeanine Áñez. The emotional meeting took place at the President’s family home in La Paz.

“President Áñez has faced the political vengeance of the Castro regime and its accomplices with dignity throughout these years. Today, it fills me with joy and honor to meet with Jeanine, now free, to reaffirm that this is a continental struggle against the interference of Communist Havana, dictatorships, and their injustices,” stated Payá.

The Battle for Sovereignty and the Recognition of Truth

The persecution against Jeanine Áñez serves as a stark reminder of the high cost of defending sovereignty against the Castro threat.

  • The Origin of Vengeance: In early 2020, then-Constitutional President Áñez broke the silence and opened files that proved the Cuban regime’s interference in Bolivia through the so-called “medical brigades.”
  • Solidarity and Action: On January 20, 2020, Áñez received Rosa María Payá at the Government Palace, sending a clear message of solidarity with the Cuban people’s fight for freedom and sharing information about the Castro intervention in Bolivian territory.
  • The Reprisal: The Havana regime reacted by slandering and offending President Áñez. Four days later, on January 24, the constitutional government broke diplomatic relations with the Cuban dictatorship.
  • The Aftermath: Following the MAS party’s return to power, Áñez was unjustly persecuted and imprisoned for nearly five years.
