The conference is organized by ECLAC and International IDEA and will be held at the commission’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile, from November 26 to 28.
The ex presidents of Chile Ricardo Lagos, Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla and Uruguay, Luis Alberto Lacalle, accompanied by Minister Secretary General of the Presidency of Chile, Gonzalo Blumel, will participate on Monday, November 26 at the opening of the international conference “The State of Democracy in Latin America: 40 years since the Third Wave of Democracy “, which will be held at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in Santiago.
The meeting will be opened at 6:00 p.m. by Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of ECLAC, and Daniel Zovatto, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA International).
The meeting, which will last until November 28, will also include the special participation of Sergio Bitar, Member of the International IDEA Advisory Council.
The media are invited to attend the opening of this conference. Journalists must carry the credential of their media or their identity card to gain access.
Only the opening of the event on Monday, November 26 will be open to the press (6:00 pm). The rest of the sessions on November 27 and 28 will be private.
